Microphone isn't working in Speaking

Taking Tests

The Speaking test requires microphone access. Here is how to fix common issues.

1. Allow microphone access

When you start a Speaking test, your browser asks for microphone permission. Click Allow. If you accidentally clicked Block, go to your browser settings and reset permissions for designwithme.org.

2. Check your system microphone

Make sure your microphone is connected and selected as the default input in your system settings.

3. Use Chrome or Firefox

Safari has limited support for microphone APIs. Use Chrome or Firefox for the best experience.

4. Close other apps using the microphone

Video calls (Zoom, Teams, Meet) can block the microphone. Close them before starting a Speaking test.

5. Reload and try again

After fixing the permission, reload the page and start the test again.

Speak clearly and at a normal pace. The AI examiner is designed to handle accented English without any issues.
